A Note From Our Pastor
Thanks for stopping by our website! I believe that God has brought you to our website for a reason and I pray that we can be a blessing and encouragement to you today.
This season as I pondered our Christmas traditions, I thought about the verse above. I know that many of us come from different situations in life, and the season puts a lot of emphasis on gift-giving and buying the coolest new toy or gadget for your loved ones. But I could not help thinking about all the stuff I have and how I would gladly receive a gift, but I don't really need more things.
I thought about how I sometimes feel guilty for owning so many clothes or shoes, or how I have two guitars, two djembes, two trumpets, and a cajon and have no way of playing them all at once. So do I really need all this stuff?
If we believe that God is the giver of all good things (James 1:17), then our response to having or owning or receiving stuff should not be "Thank you for giving me these things so that I can have them to myself," but it should be "Thank you! Now, God, how would you like me to use this stuff for your glory?"
As you reflect on this, I don't want you to just think about stuff, but to consider everything that you have, including your personality, your ambition, your free time, etc., because we all have something, and all of it has been given to us by God, so in reality He would know the best way for us to use what we have. If we don't have a lot of stuff, then it's not because of our lack of faith, but due to God's timing and purpose. This does not mean we can lay around all day and claim that we are just waiting on God to give us more stuff. Instead, it means that when we are given things or the opportunity to receive things, it should NOT be about how GOOD we are, it should be about how GOOD God is and seeking HIM in how we can best bring HIM glory with what we have.
Since I have so many musical instruments, I have begun taking them with me and inviting others to play, giving an opportunity to build relationships and to praise God through song. If you only have a tea pot, tea, and some free time, then you have the opportunity to maybe drink some tea with a friend or a neighbor and pray for them, sharing the gospel of Jesus through actions and words.
The things that we have should be seen as evidence that God is entrusting us with more responsibility, and giving us the opportunity to grow in our walk with Jesus and impact those around us. The thing to remember is that whether we have a lot or a little, we always have something -- and that something can be used for the glory of Jesus, who became man so that we might be saved by knowing, repenting, and believing in Him.
I hope this was encouraging to you, and I pray that God would guide you in knowing how to glorify Him through all the gifts you have received.
